Sarah Monzon talks about All Of You

I am delighted to have author Sarah Monzon here today! Welcome Sarah. I loved All of You and I am delighted that you are here to answer all my burning questions.

Q: This book is one of a series, which I did not realize until I had read book two (and I will go back to read book one post haste, but I thought it stood alone quite well) , this story is Michael Carrington’s story. His is quite a unique one. Where did you get the idea for his story?

Michael’s character was inspired by Noah Galloway. I was scrolling through Pinterest one night and came across a photo of Noah Galloway, a veteran and double amputee, doing pushups. He had on his prosthetic leg and supported his weight on his one arm. Michael’s character developed from there.

As far as his spiritual journey, I knew right off the bat that I wanted him to have a strong foundation in the Lord. His brother, Trent, turned away from his childhood faith due to grief and anger, but Michael’s path would be different. One that I know I personally could identify with, and I thought a lot of other Christian readers could too.

Q: I was so pleasantly surprised to find another story woven in to the pages. Alice is amazing. When you began writing this series, did you have the dual timeline in mind all along?

Yes and no. Yes, I knew it would be a dual timeline and that the historical thread would be about a ferry pilot during WWII. It wasn’t until the very end of the story, and I do mean pretty much the very end…like the last few chapters, that the characters decided to let me in on how their stories connected.

Q: I found that the picture of God’s ways of putting back the pieces of lives that seem to have not gone according to our plan was so well illustrated in this touching story, is this theme something that is particularly special to you?

I think we’ve all kind of been disappointed with life at one time or another. We all have pain and difficulties we’ve had to deal with and learn to heal from. Those times can leave us confused, angry, reeling, and alone. Sometimes our minds *know* that God is in control and that His ways are not our ways…but sometimes that knowledge can be of little comfort. And even though God may seem quiet, He will never leave us without his presence and love.

Q: What is next for you? Will there be more in series?

There are two more books in this series, Adam’s story and then Amber’s. However, that’s not what I’m working on right now. I had an idea that just wouldn’t leave me alone for a modern retelling of the story of Esther, so I’m working on that and hoping to have it finished by the fall. Then I can work on Adam’s story and hopefully have it ready next spring. Hopefully.

Q: I love the cover of the book, especially the little plane details. Which scene in the book, without giving away spoilers, was the hardest for you to write?

The first chapter, Michael’s freak accident, definitely took me the longest to write. Mostly because it is unbelievably difficult to plausibly maim a fighter pilot to the point where he becomes a double amputee. I thought I could just cause some plane malfunction or something and injure him that way and/or by ejecting out of the damaged plane. Nope. Of course, this made it difficult for me, but I am so glad that it *is* rather hard for our military pilots to receive such severe injuries.
