Love, Lace and Minor Alterations by Joy Palmer

V. Joy Palmer is an avid blogger and is co-founder of Snack Time Devotions. She is a youth leader at her church, and loves acting crazy and drinking coffee with the teens. When Joy isn’t urging the elves that live in her computer to write, she’s hanging out with her husband, their adorable baby girl, and their two socially awkward cats. This is her debut novel.

My Review

What a joy to have discovered Joy’s debut novel. She is a fresh new voice in the contemporary romance genre and it was a refreshing change. Love, Lace and Minor Alterations is set in Keene, New Hampshire (USA) and we get inside the head of Isabel (Izze to her friends and family) Vez who works at a bridal salon helping brides find the perfect dress. In comes a dashing young man hired to help the company turn a profit…and Izze and James Miles Clayton have some differences to sort out along the way. Izze’s quirky personality and her lack of trust in anyone prove to be a roller coaster ride that we get to be on the inside of her brain on. James is determined to bring the bridal salon back from the brink of bankruptcy and he must make some hard decisions in order to do that. His intentions are to make Izze’s dreams come true, but not in the way she thinks he should. There is laughter and tears and in the end some…minor alterations.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, once I got to know Isabel and her world, it was like watching an “Ally McBeal” episode, where Isabel was the main character. I loved seeing Miles and Izze’s growth towards trust and the inner dialogue she has with herself is something we can all relate to. ( …Well those of us who are a little…you know…creative and quirky ourselves.)

Perfect for young adults and adults alike, and be prepared to fall in love with this style of romance. I sincerely hope there are many such books planned. I want more!
