Author Interviews

Jody Hedlund

I am delighted to have Jody Hedlund featured as we celebrate the launch of her latest Beacons of Hope book. Jody is a ‘new to me’ author thought she is certainly not new on the fiction scene.

Jody is the winner of the 2016 Christian Book Award and a finalist for the Christy Awards,  best-selling author Jody Hedlund writes inspirational historical romances for both youth and adults. Jody lives in central Michigan with her husband, five busy children, and five spoiled cats. Although Jody prefers to experience daring and dangerous adventures through her characters rather than in real life, she’s learned that a calm existence is simply not meant to be (at least in this phase of her life!). When she’s not penning another of her page-turning stories, she loves to spend her time reading, especially when it also involves consuming coffee and chocolate.
Jody’s latest novel, Forever Safe, is now available for order on Amazon.

Will she ever be able to stop running, even when she believes she’s finally safe? – Forever Safe by Jody Hedlund

THANK YOU JODY for taking the time to answer my questions.

Q: When you are writing, what treat do you like to keep you going? Coffee OR Chocolate?
Jody: Both! I am unashamedly a coffee and chocolate fanatic!

Q: Tell me about why / how you chose the genre you write in and what about it appeals to you?
Jody: I love reading historicals, so naturally that’s what I’m drawn to write. I’m fascinated with all of the things that happen in other times and places that seem so foreign to us now. I really appreciate when historical facts are woven into books seamlessly so that I’m learning but don’t really realize I am. And I hope that I can do that in my books too.

Q: What do you do to get into “the zone” when you are writing? Do you listen to music, or go for a walk?
Jody: Most of the time, I plug in headphones, put on Pandora, and write no matter what’s going on around me. I’ve had to learn to just do it and not wait for the perfect moment.
One of the things I like to do to help me keep on track with my writing is giving myself half hour word count challenges–a specific goal of how many words I can get written in a thirty-minute time span. Doing these mini-challenges keeps me from getting too distracted by other things while I’m in a writing mode.

Q: Please give me one fun fact about yourself that readers may not know.
Jody: I have most of the songs of Sound of Music memorized (due to watching it every year as a child). Now, whenever I watch the movie, I belt out the songs at the top of my lungs, much to the listening pleasure of my children. *Grin*

I love hearing from readers! Make sure you stop by one of these places and say hello!
