Q: When you are writing, what treat do you like to keep you going?
Jen: Diet Pepsi – I can’t eat chocolate – it gives me a headache and I only have one cup of coffee as soon as I get up – it makes me a bit crazed if I have more than that one cup.

Q: Tell me about why/how you chose the genre you write in and what about it appeals to you?
Jen: I’ve been a fan of historical romance ever since I was a teenager and read my first Kathleen E. Woodiwiss novel, The Flame and the Flower. I decided to set my stories in The Gilded Age mostly because this was a time when everything in America was changing, and…high society was just coming into its own. That meant there was a lot of drama, a lot of intrigue, and enough story ideas to keep me writing for quite a few years to come.

Q: If you were to pick one character out of your books that could materialize and become a real live person, a friend, who would it be and why. (Please state which book the character comes from)
Jen: Miss Millie Longfellow from In Good Company coming out in July, 2016 – but she’s also in After a Fashion. She’s just this completely quirky young lady who does the unexpected, and she was so easy to write because she is so unusual. Any character who just flows from page to page is always a favorite.

Q: What do you do to get into “the zone” when you are writing?
Jen: I normally do take a power walk every morning, but I wouldn’t say I think much about the writing day ahead while I’m walking. I usually finish up my work day with notes for the next – and it’s the post it notes I have all over the place that get me in tune with the story – I also always go back to the chapter I wrote the day before – read it to refresh my memory exactly where I was in the story – and then I go from there. First drafts are not my favorite – the delete button always turns out to be my best friend doing a first draft – but once I write “The End” and then get to edit – that’s the part of writing I adore – It’s like all the pieces to the puzzle are on the table – I just have to make sure they’re going in the proper spot.

Q: Please give me one fun fact about yourself that readers may not know.
Jen: I’m the only person in my family who did not pursue a science or law degree – and I once completely shocked my parents by telling them I wanted to grow up to become a make-up artist – which, if you ask me, I still think would have been a totally fabulous job.

Q: Where and how can readers connect with you?
Jen: I connect with readers on Facebook or check out my website.

Which of Jen Turano’s books are your favourite and why? Well… I’m not sure if I have a favorite. I am reading on of her books, In Good Company, for the first time. I will be reading In Good Company as well. So far I am loving her books and am looking forward to reading many more!! 🙂

Thank you so much, Sydney! And, if you have an e-reader, there is a free novella I wrote out there – “Gentleman of Her Dreams.” It’s short, but a complete story and it’s a prequel to my first series – The Ladies of Distinction.

    Have a great week!

    All the best,

    Jen
