Inspiration Abounds

If you watched the 2012 Olympic opening ceremonies on Friday July 27th, you will know what I mean when I say that inspiration abounds. Every athlete with a dream has been inspired and motivated to go for something that started with the thought, ” I can.”

I witnessed inspiration by authors through the centuries that have left a legacy. Musicians through the decades who have left their tunes ringing in our ears. Dancers and artists who were inspired to follow their passions. To think that every aspect of that huge production started with an idea, and inspiration. Probably a few around a table, or at a coffee shop dreaming big dreams.

Not only did they dream, but those dreams became a reality and touched countless lives. Not only those of the volunteers involved, but those in the stadium and countless people around the world as they witnessed the opening ceremonies together, from afar.

Then there are the athletes who believed in their dream, persevered and trained for a moment like this. Some train for years for an event that might take as little as twelve seconds. To the coaches and parents who supported their dream, we owe a great deal of respect.

We do not have to look too far to find inspiration. An idea, a thought, a few words scribbled on a page… you never know where they might lead. Heck, even Mr. Bean can dream!

Perhaps Olympians are heroes not because they have arrived at the stadium donning their national colors, but because they have had the courage everyday to stare the fear of failure in the face and defy it. One choice at a time, led them to where they are today. What a great example that what you choose to do, or not to do….well, it MATTERS.

What is your dream? Where does your inspiration come from?
