As we approach Christmas, I’m reminded of my first Christmas here in Canada, and of how I’ve wished for a white Christmas every year since.
My story in Christmas with Hot Apple Cider reveals a bit about what it was like for a South African couple to land in Canada, experience their first white Christmas, celebrate a snowy New Year, and look forward to a changed future in their new country.
While my story captures a very special moment, as I look back on our 18 years in Canada I can count many more special moments. Realizing this led me to think about special moments and their impact on our daily lives.
First, these special moments, whether unexpected or anticipated, can be lost to us if we don’t stop and let ourselves be fully present.
How many times have I missed a moment because I was too busy to notice the extraordinary in my day? When life gets busy and I’m frantically rushing from pillar to post trying to fulfill the roles I’ve taken on, how many seconds or minutes of glorious wonder do I miss?
