As High As The Heavens by Kate Breslin
Oh my goodness! Prepare for a gush.
MY REVIEW
Oh my goodness, nail biter!!! What an incredible story set in WWI in German-occupied Belgium.
I could not read fast enough….. I needed to know what was going to happen next as fast as possible while being aware that I also needed to savor it. Katie Breslin’s stories are worth the wait. (What I mean is, until she clones herself and can write, say 4 books a year, or more….we have to wait for the normal human-publishing industry wait between books.)
On a serious note though, I learned so much about the history of the time and the atrocities that took place in the war. Families were ripped apart and yet what came through in the book was the human spirit’s incredible will to survive and overcome in such brave and clever ways. Pushing back the darkness and fighting their own war, in their own way.
This story is full of mystery, intrigue, romance and just pure bravery in the face of atrocity, hope in the face of trials, and it left me grateful for the freedom many fought for that we enjoy today. May we never forget.

ABOUT THE BOOK
A British nurse in WWI German-occupied Brussels, Evelyn Marche spends her days at the hospital and her nights working at a café . . . or so it seems. Eve’s most carefully guarded secret is that she also spends her nights carrying out dangerous missions as a spy for a Belgian resistance group. When a plane crashes as she’s en route to a rendezvous, Eve is the first to reach the downed plane and is shocked to recognize the badly injured pilot as British RFC Captain Simon Forrester. She risks her life to conceal him from the Germans, but as the secrets between them grow and the danger mounts, can they still hope to make it out of Belgium alive?
