Forever Safe by Jody Hedlund
Will she ever be able to stop running, even when she believes she’s finally safe?
After reading (and reviewing) Undaunted Hope, by Jody I was mistaken in thinking that Tessa’s story had the most enjoyable characters, and may I say, the most loveable. I was put in my place when I read Forever Safe. Her latest in the Beacons of Hope series is my new best favourite of the series so far. Victoria Cole is engaged and about to be married, and will she go through with it this time? Or will she leave Nathaniel Winthrop III at the alter the way she has done her previous fiancees? Her body guard, Big Al is injured and is unable to protect her so he sends a replacement, a Mr. Tom Cushman. It is not long before a misunderstanding turns to animosity, and then, as they get to know each other better while Victoria’s life is in danger… well, I don’t want to spoil it and tell you what happens. Needless to say I loved the way Tom helps her to overcome her fear, just as Victoria helps him to face the past which keeps him from opening his heart to love.
Just let me say as soon as I put down this book, I scrambled to download the Novella (which I probably should have read before this book). Reading the novella out of turn did not lessen my enjoyment of it, because Out of the Storm is where you learn about Victoria’s family history, and how they dealt with the threat of would-be kidnappers in the past. (Also pretty swoony if you ask me) What is swoony? Well it is just so romantic and the chemistry between the characters is so right, they just make you, the reader, swoon. And you thought swooning was out of date? Not in this genre.
Aside from being swoony, Jody’s characters wrestle with issues we can relate to, and often do struggle with ourselves.
Another thing I loved about this series was the fact that the lighthouses all play an integral part in the story, they are almost like characters in their own right. Each with a different character but standing firm as a beacon of hope nonetheless. The lakes, waves and wind, as well as dunes and beach sand play an important role too, and I love the common thread that binds these books together: The cross, made out of shipwrecked wood. It’s beautiful. You’ll have to read the books to find out the story behind the wooden cross which travels from recipient to recipient in each book.

Winner of the 2016 Christian Book Award and finalist for the Christy Awards, best-selling author Jody Hedlund writes inspirational historical romances for both youth and adults.
Jody lives in central Michigan with her husband, five busy children, and five spoiled cats. Although Jody prefers to experience daring and dangerous adventures through her characters rather than in real life, she’s learned that a calm existence is simply not meant to be (at least in this phase of her life!). When she’s not penning another of her page-turning stories, she loves to spend her time reading, especially when it also involves consuming coffee and chocolate.
I received a copy of Forever Safe in exchange for an honest review, which I have provided. Out of the Storm I downloaded all by myself, how could I not?
