A Dangerous Legacy by Elisabeth Camden

MY REVIEW

I first fell in love with Elisabeth’s books when I read Against the Tide (2012) What I really love about Elisabeth Camden’s books, besides the complex characters, is her incorporation of interesting history into her books. A Dangerous Legacy is another stellar historical fiction novel from Elisabeth, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Telegraph operator, Lucy Drake and her brother Nick are the main characters and we get to hear more about Nick’s story in the next book coming out in 2018 (A Daring Venture).

The arrival of Sir Colin Beckwith on the scene causes all sorts of …complications, shall we say, and as annoying as he can be at times, in the end, he wiggles his way into your heart. His struggle to shoulder the responsibility he holds and Lucy’s struggle with her lot in life is not dissimilar, but they both find their own way to hope and freedom. Along the way, however, it is a roller-coaster ride of intrigue, adventure, homing pigeons, and much more.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Lucy Drake’s mastery of Morse code has made her a valuable asset to the American news agencies as a telegrapher. But the sudden arrival of Sir Colin Beckwith at rival British news agency Reuters puts her hard-earned livelihood at risk. Newly arrived from London, Colin is talented, handsome, and insufferably charming.

Despite their rivalry, Lucy realizes Colin’s connections could be just what her family needs to turn the tide of their long legal battle over the fortune they were swindled out of forty years ago. When she negotiates an unlikely alliance with him, neither of them realizes how far the web of treachery they’re wading into will take them.
