Tell us a bit about yourself. Include a couple of facts that not a lot of people know about you.

I was born in South Africa and raised by my grandmother when my parents both succumbed to injuries in two different car wrecks when I was a baby. So my childhood was a little different, but I was so blessed to be taken in by my mother’s family and raised with so much love. My husband and I moved to Toronto, Canada in 1999. Let’s just say it’s very different spending Christmas in the northern hemisphere with snow. We have two Canadian children who I’m so proud of. They are my world. They are also my biggest fans, and I treasure that close to my heart.

Little known fact: I walked on frozen Lake Baikal in Siberia in the winter of 2012. Magnificent. My friends were running a marathon on the ice, I preferred to be the photographer.

I’m afraid of heights, my friends and family know this, but while doing research for A Promise to Keep I coerced my husband into taking me to see the documentary Free Solo about climber Alex Honnold on the big screen. It was intense. The things we do in the name of research.

Tell us a bit about the book that will be published by Anaiah Press.

Savannah Sanderson is a widow who attends her 20-year high school reunion because of a promise she made to her late husband. Michael McCann left their small town of Point, New York soon after graduation and now he returns to face some unresolved issues. Savannah is a research librarian and Michael is a technical rescuer. Although so different, they both fear taking risks, but in different ways. They must both face the past in order to move forward into the future. Aside from all that, they have some fun adventures together, I can’t say more for fear of spoiling it for the readers.

When and why did you start writing?

I began writing when I was in high school. My first newspaper column was...READ MORE
