MY REVIEW
Wow! Much has changed since book 2 when it comes to a certain character who I really did not like in book 2. Can you guess who? I have to say that The Cautious Maiden has turned out to be my favourite of all The Everstone Chronicles. The reason: The character development of Vance Everstone. I loved his real journey to redemption and his struggle to make the right choices along the way. Life is not easy sometimes.
This historical fiction romance is set in the 19th Century. Violet Hawthorne is working at Dexter’s hotel when her no good brother interferes with her life, putting her in a very awkward position. This adventure which is set in motion when Vance finds her upset due to Ezra’s unkind treatment, (trying not to include spoilers here!) and Vance treats her with such tenderness you can’t help but soften your heart towards this, up to this point, rogue.
Without giving too much away Violet and Vance are caught up in a situation they feel is out of control, but Vance does his best to protect and care for her. As Ezra’s misguided deeds and the consequences of them become apparent, things get complicated.
This very unpredictable story is heartwarming, will leave you breathless and your ‘to do’ list sadly neglected. Their journey is not without challenge and turmoil, they questions themselves and each other but in the end you will be a happy reader by the end. Happy Sigh.
