MY REVIEW I had not heard about Kechi Okwuchi before I read this book. I hadn’t heard about the plane crash or the circumstances surrounding it, nor had I seen her on America’s got Talent, so it was with a clean slate that I began reading this book and wow, Kechi’s story blew me away. I’m glad I read the book before going to search the videos of her AGT appearances. NON-FICTION REVIEW This book could not have come at a more perfect time for me. This book was relatable and just what I needed to refocus off of the storms around us in today’s crazy world, back on to the Man on the boat who calms the storms. Clarkson shares relatable stories and words of wisdom for those of us finding ourselves slightly adrift wondering how to cope in a world seemingly full of turmoil. I Will Not Fear by Melba Pattillo Beals
Written by Melba Pattillo Beals and Gerald Jampolsky, this book had quite an impact on me and my perception of just what it was like to be a person of color in America in the 1940's and 1950's, particularly in Little Rock, Arkansas and in California, and on leading up to today. I Will Not Fear is an inspiring book for anyone dealing with fear and wanting to learn some golden nuggets about overcoming it and pressing on in the face of it. This book will leave you with a greater understanding and empathy either way. Read More
