Author Interviews

Carla Laureano

Carla Laureano is the author of the RITA® award-winning romance Five Days in Skye as well as London Tides and the Celtic fantasy series The Song of Seare (as C. E. Laureano). A graduate of Pepperdine University, she worked as a sales and marketing executive for nearly a decade before leaving corporate life behind to write fiction full-time. She currently lives in Denver with her husband and two sons.

Q: When you are writing, what treat do you like to keep you going?
Carla: Coffee, tea, and chocolate—in any and all configuration!

Q: If you were to pick one character out of your books that could materialize and become a real live person, a friend, who would it be and why. (Please state which book the character comes from)
Carla: It would have to be Grace, the photojournalist heroine of London Tides. She is quite unlike me in her experiences, but since I gave her my bluntness, some of my interests, and my taste in music, I know we’d get along well. Plus, she could show me how to use the DSLR camera my husband bought for me. Considering how much I love photography as a medium, it’s embarrassing that I’m too intimidated by the tech to do anything with it.

Q:What do you do to get into “the zone” when you are writing? Do you listen to music, or go for a walk? Describe the process.
Carla: I make the day’s beverage of choice, whether coffee or tea, and put whatever music feels inspiring for the scene I’ll be writing. Then I reread the chapter or two that came before my current scene in order to pick up the thread of the story, put my phone on Do Not Disturb, and start writing! Once I actually get down to work, I can stay focused and write a few thousand words at a sitting…but some days it’s harder to resist the siren call of Facebook and Twitter than others.

Q: Please give me one fun fact about yourself that readers may not know.
Carla: When I graduated college, I wanted to be a federal investigator. I was just too young to apply to the FBI, and while I was waiting, I met my husband, got married, and decided to pursue a completely different path. I still use that desire to “get to the truth,” simply in a different way.

Q: Where and how can readers connect with you?
Carla: I love to hear from readers! You can email me at Carla@CarlaLaureano.com or catch me online at any of these places: Web | Facebook | Twitter | Google+ | Pinterest
