A Noble Masquerade by Kristi Ann Hunter is Lady Miranda Hawthorne’s story and in it she struggles between being the lady her mother expects her to be and being the passionate and vibrant personality which occasionally escapes from behind her lady-like facade. Her mother has given her lessons on how to “be a lady” since she was a young girl. She has all but given up on finding a suitable man who appreciates her for her personality. Her sister Georgina is about to make her debut in London and is bound to cause quite a stir, she is beautiful and determined to catch a duke or an Earl. Miranda fears being left on the shelf while her sister attracts all the attention.
I’m not going divulge all the details but the Duke of Marshington who has been missing from the social scene for years suddenly makes a reappearance, complicating matters for Miranda.
This story has many twists and turns, there are gentlemen, ladies, Dukes and spies and adventures. The rain seems to show up whenever something is afoot to dampen things,(and cause a bit of mud) but that is to be expected since the book is set in London in the 1800’s
I enjoyed this book and its many interesting characters. This is Kristin Ann Hunter’s first Regency novel and I look forward to seeing where her career takes her.
I was given an ARC copy of this book in e-format in exchange for an honest review.
