A Lady in Attendance by Rachel Fordham

Does anyone else find that reading Historical Fiction just soothes the soul and helps me forget reality? I read A Lady in Attendance a couple of weeks back but couldn’t post until today because my website was being migrated to a new host. Anyhow, without further delay, here is my review:

MY REVIEW

Well, let’s just say that I had no idea how interesting corn harvesting could be. Hazel and Gilbert are such loveable characters and I loved this story so much for a few reasons. First, Hazel is fighting to regain her future and it looks a lot different to what she thought it would look like. Gilbert is living his life the way he thinks is best until Hazel turns everything right side up. All the way through I was cheering them on and hoping for their happy ever after ending, and at times, I really wanted to give Gilbert’s brother a stern talking to. Didn’t trust him.

Anyway, this book was just what I needed to be entertained. I learned a thing or two about corn husking, and dentistry in those days. If you are like me and need light reads right now, this one fits the bill. Gilbert and Hazel are delightful. Thank you Rachel Fordham for a lovely few hours of respite.

Rachel Fordham has long been fascinated by all things historical or in the words of her children “old stuff”. Often the historical trivia she discovers is woven into her children’s bedtime tales. Despite her love for good stories she didn’t attempt writing a novel until her husband challenged her to do so (and now she’s so glad he did). Since that time she’s often been found typing or researching while her youngest child naps or frantically writing plot twists while she waits in the school pick-up line. In addition to her passion for storytelling, she enjoys reading, being outdoors, and seeing new places. Rachel lives with her husband and children on an island in Washington state.
